Photography FAQs

Your questions about our bump photography answered

If you have a question about our underwater bump photography, hopefully we’ve answered it in our photography faqs below. But if you want to know more, just get in touch!

Do I have to attend classes to get the photos?

No, our underwater bump photo shoots are open to everybody.

I’m not very confident in water…

Don’t worry – because we only use shallow pools, you’ll keep your head above water and your feet on the floor the whole time, and there’ll always be a WaterBumps teacher right next to you.

How is the photo shoot done?

Our professional photographer will set up an amazing underwater studio in the pool, using state-of-the-art camera equipment and flash. There’ll be time for a swim or some gentle stretches in the water first, so you’re nice and relaxed for the shoot.

I’m feeling a bit self-conscious …

Lots of women feel like this as they progress through their pregnancy. We’ll be at your side every step of the way to make sure you’re totally relaxed, and we’ll help you to get a selection of really lovely shots of your bump by creating poses which make you feel comfortable and confident.

If you have certain tattoos or areas of your body you would prefer not to have in the shots, please let us know beforehand and we will try as hard as possible to accommodate this.

When’s the best stage of pregnancy to come along?

We recommend a good-sized bump, just so it’s really clear that this is a memento of your pregnancy.  Generally, the best time to get a good photo is from around 28 weeks of pregnancy onwards, when your bump’s really obvious.

Can my partner be in the picture?

Yes! As this is probably your first professional ‘family’ photo shoot before your baby is actually born, there’s plenty of opportunity for them to be involved too if they decide they’d like to join you in the water.

What should I wear?

A lot depends on personal preference. Your favourite bikini will show off your bump to its best, and we’ve got beautiful fabric in different colours to drape across your bump. Not only is this perfect if you’re feeling a bit self-conscious, but the effects are truly stunning!

If your partner is planning on taking part in the shoot, we recommend they wear plain swimwear.

What about hair and make-up?

Don’t worry about make-up as your head won’t be in the shot (although we guarantee you will still smile at the camera!).

If you have long hair, please make sure it is tied up high or in a bun.

Your hands will be visible in all the photos, so do check that you’re happy with how your nails look before your photo shoot (no chipped nail varnish!). And if you have any special rings you’d like to be in the photos, don’t forget to put them on! Likewise, remember to take off any jewellery you don’t want to be on show.

How many photos will I get?

We’ve developed a range of poses, which will give you around 24 individual images. Your 3 favourites will then be hand-finished by our editing house to ensure they meet the very exacting standards we demand. These will then be beautifully printed on Fujiflex Crystal Archive paper to 10” x 8” and delivered to you, together with digital versions of all your images on a WaterBumps USB stick, all packaged up in a stylish presentation box.

When will I see my photos?

We reckon that waiting to meet your baby is enough suspense, so we aim to have your photos available to view online, in the comfort and privacy of your own home, within 24 hours.

How much does it cost?

The cost of our underwater bump photo shoots, including your 3 favourite photos printed ready to display and digital versions of all your images, is normally £299. However if you book your place before midnight on Friday 26th May you’ll save £100 and pay just £199!
